All this pain is an illusion.
Jennifer and Curtis Labrecque married in the spring of 1989 in a vain attempt to save their relationship. The marriage didn't fix their problems, they were quickly heading for a divorce when Jennifer found out she was pregnant with a baby girl. She gave birth to Anna in the winter of 1990 in Mound Bayou, a baby girl that saved their marriage though would fix none of the problems the couple was having. What managed to save them, however unfortunate, was a cult-like group disguised as a nature-loving commune. The young couple and their daughter soon moved with them, living off of the land. They were taught that the rules of the physical world no longer mattered, that this Earth was a temporary hell they were all soon to free of. The heavens would open their gates and welcome them with open arms. It was an easy idea to fall for, especially for the young married couple who had given up hope on everything else. The cult had much darker plans, everything seemed perfect but in order to access their heaven, they needed to offer a sacrifice. Jennifer was chosen as that sacrifice, and the night of the ceremony, Anna would never hear of her parents again.

The police were called, alerted of the ceremony. Multiple victims had been found, those alive had been arrested, and the children were either placed with family members or with foster families. Anna was taken in by her aunt, Catherine, a woman who was far too strict with Anna. She feared that the young girl would follow in her mother's footsteps, that she would get lost along the way and end up in the same situation. Catherine did her best, although she used a rough form of education to make sure that Anna would be safe. It didn't keep the growing girl from sneaking out as soon as she could, running away whenever she could. Her aunt was a cruel woman and Anna wanted nothing to do with her. Unfortunately, she was stuck with her. Anna didn't go completely neglected however, she found affection in other places. The town's boys loved her, she was one of the boys. That would all come to an end when Catherine decided to move from Mississippi to New York and forced Anna to leave all that she knew behind.

The change of environment didn't save Anna, not in Catherine's eyes. The older woman was always away at work which left Anna home and free to roam the streets. New York City was fascinating to Anna, it was much bigger than the small town she had known, there were so many things to see, and she was rarely ever home. When she did come home, it was only to be yelled at by her aunt who feared she was losing her niece to the same faith her sister had taken. She wasn't wrong, she had lost Anna to something, but it wasn't a cult. It was at the age of fifteen that Anna met Paula, an older woman who took care of a couple of street kids. She showed Anna the love and affection she had been seeking her entire life. In a way, Paula became a mother figure for the young girl. Little did she know that Paula was raising them to become runners in her own little world of crime. Most of the other kids were already running drugs, committing other miscellaneous crimes. It was a life that Anna wanted nothing to do with but she had grown close to this woman and to the other children. They made her feel wanted, they made her feel normal, despite the constant pressure to join in their illegal activities. Anna made attempts to leave them, going home to Catherine, but the older woman had enough of her troubles and finally kicked her out. Catherine felt she could no longer save the young girl. That left Anna no choice but to go back to Paula who welcomed her with open arms, who offered her shelter and food, as long as she participated in the crimes. Anna finally gave in, thus beginning her spree of small crimes. She was assigned the task of running drugs, a struggle for Anna who didn't believe in the use of drugs. The task grew easier the more she did it however. Paula grew proud of her little rogue, as she affectionately called her, and soon gave her more responsibilities. Anna was in charge of directing the younger kids, giving them orders and their runs for the day. It was getting to be too much for her, especially when things began escalating and getting violent. Rogue had always been a fighter, not trained but the sort of person who fights dirty just to win. She had always been a fighter but this was too much for her. It was at the age of eighteen that she left the big city. She needed to get away from all the destruction, everything that she had ever hated. She needed a fresh start.

She moved to the small town of Dover, New York. It was a quiet place where neighbours seemed friendly and everyone looked out for each other. It was a perfect place for Anna, although she wanted nothing more than to be left alone. She had found a home, and although she could never walk the streets without looking over her shoulder, she felt more at peace than she had in some time. She was finally free to be herself, she didn't have to worry about anyone using her or anyone else being influenced by what she did. She could finally figure her life out and for the first time in a long time, she began to feel happy. She began to form a life in Dover, getting a job as a waitress in a small diner. She enjoyed her life, however simple it was. It all came to a halt when she bumped into Paula at the diner she was working, Paula had managed to find her even after all this time. She hadn't come to recruit Anna, she had come with the news that one of the boys Anna had been close to had passed away in an attempted armed robbery. This managed to pull Anna back to New York City for the funeral. Much to her chagrin, Anna noticed a lot of familiar faces, realizing that none of them had gotten out like she had. She didn't stay in New York, she fled Dover once again upon realizing that she had been found. Paula had a few choice words, letting her know that she could leave but that she'd never have a family again. Anna walked away and relocated to Boston where she believed she'd be safe.

Upon her arrival to Boston, Anna managed to find herself a new job as a waitress in a bar and grill. She had saved enough funds from her previous job to afford the rent of a small apartment and enough to survive off of for a couple of weeks. The job was still a blessing, being experienced as a waitress helped her in the long run. Truth be told, no place has ever felt like home quite like Boston has.

Rogue's parents, Owen and Priscilla, married early in their relationship and lived in a back-to-nature hippie commune in Caldecott County, Mississippi. Born as Anna Marie, she also enjoyed the attentions of her Aunt Carrie on her mother's side. The commune's failed attempt to use Native American mysticism to reach the Far Banks resulted in Priscilla's disappearance. Carrie took over Anna's care and, in her grief at the loss of her sister, was a strict and authoritarian guardian. Anna Marie was a rebellious child and her equally poor relationship with her father prompted her to run away from home as a young teenager. This also prompted the nickname "Rogue".

At some point, Rogue grew close to a boy named Cody Robbins. During their flirtation, Rogue impulsively kissed Cody, at which point her latent mutant power to absorb the life energy and psyche of others with skin-to-skin contact emerged. Cody was left in a coma from which he would not awaken. Rogue was traumatized by the experience and she wore body-concealing clothing that eliminated the possibility of accidental skin contact. Rogue was not able to control her absorption power at first; any skin-to-skin contact activated it, and she sometimes retained residual memories of the people she touched. Rogue wished she did not have to cover up so much around folks, to protect them from her. [...]

personality Anna is one hell of a personality, something that no one can keep shut in. She's very quick to stand up for herself and those she believes are friends or family. She is loyal to the death and will always stand up for them. She's an honest woman who likes to see the good in people although it doesn't take much to get her temper going. She's quick to throw punches and use her words later, especially if she believes someone is being disrespectful. That temper of hers can be an issue, and it is something she's made attempts at trying to help herself but nothing works. It causes her to occasionally be a little moody, although her friends generally aren't the recipients of her moods.

She is a very passionate woman, once she believes in something, she will do every she can to preserve it, whether it's a person or a dream of hers. She's very protective of those things. Despite the fact that she seems to have trouble keeping a coolhead and the fact that she is a very impulsive woman, Anna is still kind at heart. She will always do what she believes is best, even if this ultimately means she might hurt herself in the process. She wanted to look out for people, she wants to be a good person, which occasionally means she judges herself too harshly. She doesn't thrive for perfection, she only wants to be accepted, to be considered a good person. She is predominantly the sort of woman with a smile on her face, the kind that can be a little flirty and considered fun when she is comfortable in her environment. The one major flaw that she has is her fear of losing control. Anna takes pride in her independence, after going through a rough period in her life where she never had control, she clings to that independence. If she suspects she's losing control, she tends to panic and make quick illogical decisions. It's one of her biggest weaknesses as far as character flaws go.

facts • anna loves to cook, although she's not the best at baking. she can make one hell of a good supper but when it comes to the desserts, most people regret their choices.

• although she's always wanted somewhere to belong, people to call a family, she's not the most affectionate of people. she doesn't like to be touched, she doesn't do hugs or holding hands. she's quick to blame it on how she was raised but it's something she can't quite explain.

• despite having left mississippi for a while now, she continues to go back every year. this is something she keeps secret from people as she doesn't want them knowing her family's darker past. she goes back to visit her parents' grave every summer, staying there for a couple of days before returning home.

• she still has a very heavy southern accent, something she can't seem to shed no matter how long she's been out of mississippi.

• list of things she likes: apple pie, cats, basketball, big cities, men, gumbo, emeralds, tequila, beer, spicy food, tattoos, swimming, the feeling of flying/free falling, big sweaters, romantic movies.

• list of things she dislikes: disrespect, people who don't treat women like they should be treated, lack of control, cults, liars, secrets, honey mustard, cold winter days, scary movies, metal music, people who leave no tips for good service.

• anna likes to read, although she's not big on non-fiction. she prefers her thrillers and romance novels (that she hides from everyone). she very much likes the idea of love and romance although she's not the most romantic woman out there.

• she has no issue picking a fight with someone who's twice her size, as a matter of fact she seems to pick fights more often with people who are bigger than her. she's not a trained fighter but she's scrappy. she has no issue fighting dirty if it means it'll get her a win. this has led to her getting into trouble and it's something she's working on.
